The complete guide

Everything you need to know about custom cocktail napkins

The cocktail napkin is hospitality’s smallest billboard: it arrives under every glass, sits in every hand during toasts and passed appetizers, and gets photographed more than any signage in the room. Printing it costs cents; skipping it wastes the most-handled object at your event.

Ordering well means the right ply (softness is the quality tell), the right size for the service, and a print method that matches the occasion — ink for bars, foil for weddings. This guide covers all of it; when ready, request a custom quote with your art or monogram.

Why go custom

The most-handled object at your event

A custom cocktail napkin is placed directly into every guest’s hand — no other branding gets that delivery rate. It’s the detail people notice, photograph and remember the host by.

In every single hand

Every drink and every appetizer comes with one — a 100% reach rate no sign or screen matches.

Reads as thoughtfulness

A monogrammed or branded napkin signals the details were sweated — the mark of a real host.

Costs cents

At bulk pricing the branded version costs barely more than the plain one — the upgrade is nearly free.

Sizes and service

Napkin sizes: match the napkin to the service

Beverage, luncheon or dinner — folded size determines what the napkin can do. Here’s the standard lineup and where each belongs.

Folded size by napkin class (inches)

The 5″ cocktail fold fits under every glass and in every hand — the universal event napkin.

Napkins per guest (planning math)

Order for the bar math, not the guest count — an open-bar wedding of 150 goes through 750 cocktail napkins.

Softness is the quality signal

Our napkins run on soft 3-ply tissue — the difference guests feel immediately against the 1-ply that scratches and sheds. Three plies drink spills properly, hold a fold crisply, and carry ink and foil without bleed-through.

Printing is food-safe by spec: soy-based inks and stamped metallic foils that sit on the surface without odor or transfer. Air-laid “linen-feel” stock is available when the event calls for cloth-adjacent luxury at disposable convenience.

  • 3-ply tissue — soft, absorbent, substantial
  • Food-safe soy inks — no odor, no transfer
  • Metallic foil stamping — gold, silver, rose gold
  • Crisp quarter-fold — stacks and fans cleanly
  • Linen-feel option — cloth look, disposable ease
  • FSC-sourced tissue — responsibly grown fiber

Bulk pricing

How napkin pricing works

Napkins price per piece by class, print method and quantity — ink runs are remarkably cheap at volume, foil carries a stamping premium worth it for formal events. Cases beat sleeves decisively.

FAQ

Cocktail napkin questions, answered

How many napkins should I order for my event?
Plan by the bar, not the headcount: three per guest for a cocktail hour, five for a full open-bar night, plus two per guest if you’re passing appetizers. We’d rather you have a sleeve left over than run out at 9 pm.
What's the minimum order?
100 napkins — a dinner party’s worth. Pricing improves at 500, 2,000 and 10,000; bars and caterers order by the case.
Foil or ink — which should I choose?
Foil for formal — metallic monograms on ivory or black are the wedding standard. Ink for bars, brands and everyday service — cheaper at volume and crisp for logos. Both proof before printing.
Are the inks food-safe?
Yes — soy-based inks and surface-stamped foils, both food-contact appropriate and odor-free. Napkins arrive ready for service.
Can you match my wedding or brand colors?
Napkin stock comes in the palette above and print colors match to your stated values — send a swatch or hex code and the proof will show the pairing.
What design formats do you accept?
Vector logos are ideal; clean PNGs work. For monograms and date layouts you can simply type the details and pick a house style — no artwork needed.
How soft are these compared to typical printed napkins?
Noticeably — 3-ply tissue is the spec, and it’s the first thing hosts comment on. The scratchy 1-ply promo napkin is exactly what we’re not selling.
Can I see a proof before the full run?
Every order gets a digital proof, and printed samples are available for foil work and color-critical events — recommended for weddings.
How far ahead should I order for a wedding?
Three to four weeks is comfortable; foil and linen-feel orders benefit from four. Rush options exist, but peak season (May–October) books ahead.
Do you supply bars and caterers ongoing?
Yes — standing case orders with stored artwork are our bread and butter; reorders skip proofing and ship on your restock cadence.
Are eco-friendly options available?
Yes — FSC-sourced tissue is standard, and unbleached kraft-tone napkins with soy inks are available for sustainability-minded events.
How do I get a quote?
Send your occasion, guest count, napkin class and design idea through the quote form — you’ll get the napkin math, a proof and itemized pricing back quickly.
